Project Description
Nakundu School is a rural primary school in Malawi that faces many problems, being both understaffed and under resourced. Classes often exceed 100 students, most classrooms are without desks and chairs and it is typical for students to sit on the floor from 8am-1pm whilst trying to learn. Many of the classrooms are in very bad condition as there is little funding for renovation and maintenance. The walls are cracked and dirty and floors often have large holes.
This year we welcomed a group of students from Elon University in America who funded and completed the work of renovating some of these classrooms. Something as simple as painting a classroom can significantly improve the learning environment for students. In this case it did so for over 200 students. The classrooms were cleaned, cracks filled and rooms repainted. A big thank-you to the volunteers from Elon for making this possible!
