Project Description
Bicycle Ambulance Donations
85% of Malawi’s population live in rural areas, yet the main health care facilities are all located in towns and cities. A lack of access to transport for people in rural areas to get to these health care facilities is one of the biggest barriers to people seeking the medical treatment that they need.
A first step towards helping to improve the situation for people in rural communities is providing a bicycle ambulance. They are suitable for village roads and allow a patient to be transported to a local facility or to the nearest tarmac road where they will be able to find transport to continue onwards.
They are particularly helpful for women in labour or very sick people who would be unable to walk the journey. We have donated this vital resource to many of the villages that we work with and they have improved the lives of people in those communities.
